Blog Entries: Where are the Wild Boars? - July 2019
Terrain: Mixed bush of pines and deciduous trees. Extensive marshland along the park’s north shore. Good balance of sun and shade areas.
Staff: Not very helpful. Did not give us a map or directions to our site.
Bathrooms: Regular vault toilets. Sink outside was boarded up so you have to go looking for a water faucet to wash your hands.
Shower: Five - at each of the comfort stations, one one each campground plus an additional one on the Champlain campground. Showers were
clean and hot enough, but the water kept turning itself off too early and you would have to push a button to turn it back on again.
Beach: 4 large sandy beaches with roped in swimming areas.
Outdoor Water Faucets: well placed through out the park
Hiking Trails: Coureur des Bois Trail - 1.5km loop, 45 minutes, easy to moderate
This trail is the main park hiking trail. It winds through several terrestrial and aquatic habitats. Interpretive plaques are located at spots of interest.
A second walking trail links Champlain Campground to the day-use area. It is linear and is easy to navigate. A one-way trip takes about 15 to 20 minutes at a leisurely pace.
Pet Amenities: There are 2 dog beaches
Playground: There are climbing bars at the beach in the Champlain campground.
Park Store: Located at the main beach (day use area). Groceries, canned goods and beverages and camping supplies such as firewood, ice, insect repellent, sunscreen, tent pegs, ponchos, batteries, flashlights and tarps are available. A fast food section offers breakfast meals as well as burgers, hot dogs, fries, sandwiches, ice cream (both soft and hard) and confectionery treats.
Boat/Canoe Rentals: Visitors can rent canoes, paddleboats and kayaks at the boat rental facility located in the day-use area. A large group barbeque is also available for rent at the day-use picnic area.
For those requiring camping equipment, tents, sleeping bags and cook stoves are available for rent at the main registration office.
