Whiteshell Provincial Park (West Hawk Lake)
Rating: ★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆ West Hawk Lake site
Box 119, West Hawk Lake, MB, R0E 2H0 (204) 349-2245 No. of Sites (122) 49 non-electrical sites, 73 electrical sites, 5 sites double as one group site Wheel Chair Accessible Campgrounds - Yes (2) |
Terrain - Trees around the perimeter and a few trees in the camping areas, but mostly wide open and crowded. No privacy from other campers.
Plenty of grassy areas. There are roads, sidewalks, restaurants and stores everywhere. Looks more like a small town than a campground.
Staff - Available during daytime only. Were not overly friendly, but not unfriendly either. More interested in their paperwork and computers than in
the people camping there.
Bathrooms - 5 comfort stations (flush toilets/ running water) Very clean and well maintained, 1 regular non-flush bathroom
Showers - 2 pay-per-use showers (about $1 for 3 minutes). The water pressure was good and the water was hot. Water heated by solar
panels. The building itself is beautiful and had artistic angles and shapes to it. Has auto flush toilets and motion sensor faucets.
Beach - 2 beaches - Miller Beach is unsupervised and the other, Crescent Beach is a medium sized sandy beach, but no picnic area directly on
the beach.
Out Door Water Faucets - 11 with signs to indicate where they are.
Hiking Trails - Rock Outcrop Scenic Walk (0.5 km) - Goes up a hill and has a great view, but educational signs are in disrepair.
Pet Amenities - none
Playground - 2 available, tennis court also available
Park Store - stores and restaurants everywhere
Boat/Canoe Rentals - A marina is located here (unknown if there are actual rentals)

Directions:
Leaving Winnipeg, take Hwy 1, 126 km/78.3 mi. east to Falcon Lake and West Hawk Lake. Additional entry points to the park include PR 307 at Seven Sisters Falls and PTH 44 at Rennie.
Signs For Directions To Park - Easy to see and easy to find, but once you enter the park it gets a bit confusing because the place doesn't look
like a park so you don't know if you have made a wrong turn somewhere or not.
